Mosquito Management
Mosquito-Borne Disease Control Program
The Mosquito-borne Disease Control Program operates out of the Lebanon County Conservation District (LCCD). The cornerstone of this program is surveillance, which is the process of determining the presence, abundance, and distribution of mosquitoes within a geographic area. The program leverages a variety of techniques to monitor changes in mosquito populations, detect the presence and prevalence of potentially infectious mosquitoes, and establish a scientific basis for control activities.
As we approach the peak of mosquito season, its important to understand the effort being made through this program to control mosquito populations and help protect the community from incidences of West Nile Virus.
Due to increased viral activity throughout the county, the program has been instructed by the PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to conduct barrier sprays using the insecticide Flit 10 E.C. on non-flowering vegetation at sites that tested positive for West Nile Virus and sites with high numbers of Mosquitoes. For this reason, you may see people with backpack sprayers performing these applications at SRPs, parks, neighborhoods, etc.
